Dog Fostering Program
With the assistance of Friends of the Shelter Dogs SEPTA is piloting a new dog fostering program. Programs pairing dogs waiting to be adopted with criminals are not new. In the early 1980’s, prisons across the country began using dog fostering programs. SEPTA provides housing and basic obedience training for selected dogs until the dog is adopted into a home of their own. SEPTA residents are using basic obedience training techniques and teaching the dogs skills to make them more adoptable (by paul). This helps SEPTA residents feel a sense of pride in giving back to their community in a positive manner.
